Kassie Couey is a litigation attorney with broad experience in complex commercial litigation. Her practice has included multidistrict litigation, products liability, class actions, and antitrust claims in state and federal courts across the country.
Before joining GGU, Kassie began her career as a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Kassie then served a two-year clerkship for the Honorable Robert M. Dow, Jr. in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Kassie joined GGU from Keller Postman LLC, where she served as a litigation associate following completion of her clerkship.
Kassie received her law degree, cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law in 2012. She was an Articles Editor for Northwestern University Law Review and was a member of the national moot court team. Kassie received her undergraduate degree from University of California, Santa Cruz in 2007, with a focus in Legal Studies and Philosophy.
Kassie was named an Illinois Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2022 to 2024 for demonstrating outstanding professional achievement and attaining a high degree of peer recognition. Kassie was also named Best Lawyers: One to Watch in 2024 for outstanding professional excellence in private practice.

- Defended regulated medical waste service provider in multiple state and federal court lawsuits against hundreds of business opt-out plaintiffs asserting consumer fraud and breach of contract claims
- Defended national insurance association in federal multi-district litigation involving antitrust claims
- Defended Big Four accounting firm in professional liability action in federal court seeking damages based on firm’s annual audits of investment fund that invested in Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities
- Defended international insurance broker in state-court professional liability action seeking damages for Hurricane Katrina-related losses in Louisiana and Mississippi
Torts and Products Liability
- Defended manufacturer of CSST (corrugated stainless-steel tubing) in multiple putative product liability class action. Successfully secured dismissal of all claims at the pleading stage
- Represented manufacturer of valve used in gas cylinders in product liability and recall litigation relating in federal court
- Represented plaintiffs in largest products liability multi-district litigation in the country, working extensively on numerous bellwether trials
Arbitrations
- Defended automotive supplier in international arbitration based in Franfurt, Germany
- Defended marketing company in breach of contract arbitration
- Defended financial services company in arbitration regarding a dispute over the terms of an executive employment agreement
Pro Bono
- Represented wrongfully convicted clients at all stages of post-conviction proceedings while working as a law student and subsequently as a Fellow at the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law, including researching and drafting brief before the Supreme Court of Illinois resulting in the release of client from prison
- Represented prisoner in habeas appeal before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, including en banc oral argument
- Represented defendant in federal court against criminal wire fraud and mortgage fraud charges
- Served as guardian ad litem for two children in state-court custody hearing
- Assisted veteran in connection with Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) application
